Organization – Delegatophobia

Are you suffering? There is a cure!

How many times have you said, “It’s easier to do it myself or “I don’t have time to delegate”, or “No one can do it like I can!”

One of the symptoms of delegatophobia (not in Webster’s dictionary) is believing that you’re Superman/Superwoman, that you can do everything in perfection, completeness and quick as a speeding train.  Sorry…even Superman has his challenger, it’s called kryptonite.  For humans, it’s called “Life”.

Delegation is an important piece of organization.  It increases your time, efficiency and  productivity while decreasing your stress levels.

Here are some ways to help cure delegatophobia:

  • Value – What is your time and quality of life worth?  Calculate what you make hourly to what you would pay someone to complete the task.
  • Define your tasks – Choose tasks you enjoy doing and the ones you don’t.  The more defined the task, the easier it is to delegate.
  • Let go of the “No one can do it as well as I can” belief. – The result is to get projects completed.  You have to trust that the delegate will complete the project as you have described it to them.  Make sure the communication is clear.  Don’t leave them guessing.

The true cure is to create a team.  The team can be your family, friends, and your local dry-cleaner who picks up and delivers.  Use your super powers to create a support system that you can delegate out to that you can have better results in less time than if you were to do it all yourself.
